Case Management

In February 2003 Positive Directions added Case Management to the list of services provided to the HIV+ community. Our case managers assist clients with everything from housing, budgeting their finances, assistance with Ryan White coverage and more. Our case managers are a referral and resource guide for the clients helping them in many ways with day to day activities. Our housing options are Section 8, Shelter Plus Care, Kansas Care Through Housing and KC Estates.

Emergency Assistance - Through the support of the ArtAID committee, PDI can provide assistance with various needs as they arise in the lives of our clients. We have helped with rent, utilities, eye glasses, family funeral travel and other types of client needs.

Household Items - Within our small storage space, PDI recycles furniture and other gently used home items to our client’s homes.

Housing - Four housing options are available to our clients

  • Section 8 - Case Managers will work with eligible clients.
  • Shelter Plus Care - PDI is one of three organizations in Wichita able to provide certificates for this program. Clients are required to have one to four in-person home visits per month by their case manager.
  • Kansas Care Through Housing (HOPWA) - Case Managers work with clients to complete applications for this program. There are emergency, short-term, and long-term assistance programs available. Clients are required to have one in-person home visit every 90 days.
  • KC Estates - PDI works with Mennonite House in a 7-unit complex specifically for our clients. PDI makes referrals to the program and provides all case management services for those clients.

Ryan White - Case Managers work with clients to fulfill all requirements to complete this program. In-person and in-home visits, evaluations, renewals, and monitoring are provided to maintain a client's eligibility.

Referrals - Case Managers maintain a working list of medical, dental, eye care, mental health, and substance abuse/treatment providers that clients are able to access for services.

Starter Boxes - Boxes filled with items to start up a new home are provided. Items may include things like sheets, pillow, towels, plates, flatware, glasses, pots and pans, laundry soap, and various personal care items.

Transportation - Through assistance from KCTH and ArtAID, bus passes are available for our clients.
