My interest in manipulating paper began as a tot, watching Miss Francis make papier maché on TV’s Ding Dong School. It was, however, immediately squelched by a soulless mother who refused to let me fill the bathtub with wet newspaper. Decades of mundane paper use ended when I discovered a French technique for converting discarded cardboard into furniture and decorative objects. The works in this, my second show, include tables and “chests” of drawers. Words and word play are an important part of my creative process, with titles (Polka Dotshund, Pi Table) often preceding and inspiring the thing itself. Recycling is essential to the spirit of the work and also enables friends and various furniture warehouse workers to participate by helping me score good stuff. Finally, the many steps involved in building each piece are even more effective than obsessively popping bubble wrap at keeping existential angst at bay.



The Jones Gallery at Positive Directions is named after our benefactor and friends, the Jones family. Located in the heart of the Arts District Positive Directions is now participating in the Final Friday Gallery Crawl.

The last Friday of every month, the Jones Gallery hosts a new art show featuring the talents of the areas brightest artists. It’s our way of giving back to the arts community after all the years of support they have given us with ArtAID.

Come on down to Commerce Street, and within walking distance you will be able to visit eight of the cities finest art galleries. The Final Friday event is an area wide evening of art and fun, with free trolley rides to other galleries throughout the city. It’s a monthly event you won’t want to miss!
