Shadow People is a story about people we see every day but relegate to the shadows of our consciousness. They are homeless. Our perceptions and prejudices tell us what to think, who they are and why they are homeless. Most of the time, reality is very different.
For six months local photographer Steve Hauck spent time with the these people....getting to know them and gaining their trust before ever taking any pictures. These photos tell their stories.
In a former life Hauck was an award winning television news photojournalist. He was mentored by local legends Larry Hatteberg and Steve Harper. A 1983 documentary he produced on religious cults was nominated for a national Emmy award.

Removed from a small Kansas farm to the big city of Wichita, I never lost my love of nature, but grew to love the urban decay Wichita provides. I show both through the lens of my many cameras. I also paint my abstract feelings on the canvas, as well as on the computer, and this show will provide the gestalt of my true loves.
