ArtAID is taking things to a new level with ArtAID 17 “Sideshow”! Planet Hair is pulling out all the stops with an amazing runway show filled with LOTS of surprises - featuring more than more than 100 models and dancers and a few unexpected guests. As always, ArtAID is proud of the art we auction off each year and this year we have some incredible pieces from local and regional artists, in fact, more than 200 pieces have been donated! This year's featured artist, Tabitha Bean will be featured in both our live auction and silent auction. Get there early and enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Corporate Caterers and stick around after the runway show for live music from The Naughty Astronauts. All proceeds benefit Positive Directions, a non-profit organization that helps people in the Wichita area who live with HIV/AIDS. Get ready for some high-fashion fun at ArtAID Rocks! This year we’re pulling out all the stops and celebrating our 15th year! There will be over 70 models in the show, performers from Cabaret Oldtown, live music from "The Naughty Astronauts", hors d'oeurvres from Corporate Caterers, over 175 items to bid on in the live and silent art auction AND some fun surprises! This year's featured artist, Chris Bruner, will be creating a one-of-a-kind sculpture to be auctioned off. All proceeds benefit Positive Directions, a non-profit organization that helps people in the Wichita area who live with HIV/AIDS.

This year’s Featured Artist is Chris Bruner.
Chris Brunner’s artistry manifests itself in everything from sculpture to site-specific installations, from functional fixtures to innovative lighting solutions and water features. Revealing his passion for nature in steel, limestone, granite and marble, Brunner’s work enlivens space with strong, fluid design. His organic materials integrate with their environment, defining a sense of place.

Brunner holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Bethany College and a master’s of fine arts in sculpture from Wichita State University. After completing his post-graduate studies in 1979, Brunner worked for Trotter Brothers, designing and manufacturing theatrical props, puppets and stages. He then served as production supervisor at the Design Centre, overseeing the conception and fabrication of wildly diverse yet purposeful displays for trade shows, retail ventures and more.

An active artist for almost 30 years, Brunner is equally adept with public art projects, private commissions or themed exhibitions. Recently completed work includes a monolithic sculpture for ABC-TV’s “Extreme Home Makeover.” He also collaborated on design and production of an abstract large-scale stone battleship and site furniture on the grounds of Wichita’s Mid-American All-Indian Center, located at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas rivers.

Chris has supported ArtAID from its inception and we are thrilled that he will be recognized as the Featured Artist this year.

Over the past 14 years Planet Hair has helped raise more than $1,000,000.00 to help provide basic living needs for people living in Wichita with HIV/AIDS. Sponsored by Planet Hair, Bud Light, the Kansas CW, Bob FM and Greteman Group, this incredible fundraiser has grown into the social event of the year. Mark your calendar now for Saturday, October 11, 2007 to attend ArtAID 15!

The event began in 1992 after Planet Hair co-owner Tod Ernst began volunteering to cut clients hair at ConnectCare. “The team at Planet Hair thought we could do more,” Ernst said. “We were amazed at the success of the first ArtAID which started with a few hors d’oeuvres and a little fashion show at a local nightclub. Everyone urged us to make it an annual event and more organizations have chipped in each year.”

The ArtAID event is a lively evening filled with entertainment, art auctions, dancing and great food. Proceeds from the event are raised through ticket sales and a live and silent auction of art donated from local artists and collectors. Our art show has become one of the premier art auctions in the area both for donating artists as well as collectors. Each year ArtAID names a Featured Artist who creates a piece specifically for the event. Past Featured Artists include Constance Ernatt, John Enratt, Patrick Duegaw, Curt Clonts and many more of the talented Wichita art community.

The pinnacle of the evening each year is the extravagant runway fashion show put on by the Planet Hair team. Based on a different theme each year, the team creates elaborate hairstyles, make-up, and costuming to create a spectacular visual experience. Incorporating the talent of local and national dancers, musicians, and actors into the fashion show. Planet Hair provides a show that’s entertaining and breathtakingly beautiful.
